

PAGE 2 PANTRY™ is an hour-long program which explores in simple, easy to understand language, how and why our nutrition, health and lifestyle choices affect our health outcomes. PAGE 2 PANTRY™ sheds light on misconceptions and misinformation through thought- and action-provoking topics that debunk powerful myths which jeopardize honest attempts at wellness and health. Our main goal is to empower individuals and families to confidently self-select healthy choices in nutrition and lifestyle, based on a clear understanding of the science of the human body. There are numerous fad diets and pills out there and yet obesity afflicts a larger percentage of the population, both young and old. Childhood Obesity has been designated by the Center for Disease Control, National Institute of Health and other leading scientific bodies, as the fastest growing epidemic in America. Far from being a matter of aesthetics, obesity has serious and often deadly consequences including Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, Cancer, Coronary Disease, Stroke, Heart Attacks, Osteoarthritis, Sleep Apnea, etc.
Mysterious diseases and rare cancers are on the rise every year. At the same time, food contamination, food borne illnesses, the toxicity of pesticides, the ecological and health impact of industrial farming and the effects of globalization on health and sustainability are becoming essential considerations for both personal life and public policy. The experts are increasingly are calling for increased public awareness, education and participation as the answer.
PAGE 2 PANTRY™ offers fact and research based information on the pertinent health issues of our day, in an entertaining format, with emphasis on the doable steps that can easily be applied in a real world kitchen and pantry.
PAGE 2 PANTRY™ believes that maintaining good health and wellness is a complex, multi-faceted issue, and must be addressed as such. Addressing the basic lack of knowledge about the body’s organs, what they do and how they are affected by nutrition and life style choices is necessary. An insightful, frank, witty and sometimes hard hitting look at our cultural attitudes towards food as well as psychological defense mechanisms and the ways in which we sabotage ourselves is necessary. An exploration of the role of popular media in disseminating unrealistic body images and the propagation of the idea of dieting as opposed to a healthy lifestyle is necessary. Practical tips to lower saturated fat and sodium, increase flavor, get thumbs up endorsement from even the fussiest eaters and take the listener from the pages of nutrition or self-help books into real life applications, right at the door of their own pantry are necessary. Mouthwatering recipe suggestions from different ethnic groups, introduction to the benefits and uses of often overlooked herbs, fruits, vegetables, which can add an exciting jolt back into healthful eating, are necessary. A discussion of the state of public health policy, the powers, limitations and funding of regulatory agencies; current and upcoming legislation that affects health and wellness; the impact of industry and globalization on health and sustainability; and how the listeners can become aware, involved participants in their own wellness outcomes is a. In addition, Page 2 Pantry will encourage and respond to listener suggestions of topics that are of the greatest interest to them, ensuring that the show is always pertinent and in touch with its audience.
FORMAT:
Approximately half hour of discussion or presentation of a pertinent issue each week will be followed by thirty minutes of call-in by listeners. Each show will feature input from experts on health, nutrition, public health policy, exercise physiology, psychology etc., as appropriate for each show. The vast sea of information out there is often overwhelming so people simply give up and settle back into the usual rut. Not anymore!
